Evidence-Based Healing

 EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain and nervous system heal from overwhelming or confusing experiences. Think of it as a way to help your mind's natural processing system digest memories that feel heavy or stuck, allowing them to finally find a place of quiet resolution.

Our approach is gentle and adjusted for each person, making it a safe space for children, teens, and adults. EMDR is especially helpful for navigating trauma, anxiety, and those big feelings that feel ‘stuck’ in your body or mind, helping you or your child move forward with a renewed sense of calm and confidence.

The Science of Healing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy approach designed to help the brain process and heal from distressing or “stuck” experiences that continue to impact emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and the nervous system. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — such as eye movements, tapping, or alternating sounds — while working through difficult memories or experiences in a safe and structured way. Research suggests this process helps the brain reprocess information more adaptively, reducing the emotional intensity connected to painful memories while strengthening healthier beliefs, emotional regulation, and nervous system responses. EMDR has been extensively researched and is recognized as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD by organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Playful EMDR Support

At SkyLife Wellness, EMDR in the play therapy room is adapted to meet children at their developmental level through creativity, movement, and play-based interventions. Rather than relying only on traditional methods, our counselors may incorporate puppets, sand tray therapy, storytelling, art, games, movement, and imaginative play to help children safely process emotions and difficult experiences in ways that feel natural and engaging to them.

By blending EMDR, play therapy, and neuroscience-informed approaches, we help children work through anxiety, trauma, fears, grief, emotional overwhelm, and behavioral challenges while also strengthening emotional regulation, coping skills, confidence, and nervous system regulation in a supportive and child-friendly environment.
